So after being able to compile Hedgewars for Mac the next step was to create a bundle!
Bundles for macs are like .exe for windows, they're files very simple to distribute used by most programs; then you just have to double click the icon and the app will start.

here is the list of my builds

BUGS and TODOS

  • no F-keys, as they are mapped to osx programs
  • not possible to change grenade time (solved in 0.9.13)
  • backspace and delete in game chats just prints squares (solved in 0.9.10)
  • right click can be weird if you have single button mouse/touchpad (solved in 0.9.11/12)
  • don't know if works on Tiger (solved in 0.9.11)
  • clicking on the title bar moves the window under the dock (solved in 0.9.10)
  • gameserver not installed (solved in 0.9.11)
  • PowerPC macs not supported (solved in 0.9.13)

other common bugs, like any version

  • F12 is broken, full screen just gives white screen
  • double icon in the dock bar when in game
  • sound sometimes quircks (solved in newer version of SDL_Mixer)

UPDATES

Well, after a week of trials and (mostly) failures, i present you with the first Mac Bundle for Hedgewars 0.9.8 (Intel Only)

DOWNLOAD

it's not ready for widespread distribution because there are some minor issues that need to be tested!

so far we found:
- no F-key, as they are mapped to osx programs
- F12 is broken, full screen just gives white screen
- sound sometimes quircks
- backspace and delete in game chats just prints squares
- right click can be weird if you have single button mouse/touchpad; if ctrl+click doesn't work use cmd+click
- don't know if works on Tiger (and before)

one careful note is that when switching applications with ALT-TAB you HAVE TO RETURN to the game window with ALT-TAB!!!!! otherwise the window will move around randomly! if that happens to you, open Spaces and drag the windows from wherever it is to a centered position!

now we need some testers!!! there might be many more problems to be found out and corrected for later releases Smile

thanks to
unC0Rr for compilation stuff
Tiyuri for bundle icon
nemo for patience advice and testing
affect for suggestion on libSDL_mixer
lostorto for installer bundle graphics

bye

Hello Koda, and well done.

"- F12 is broken, full screen just gives white screen"

This is broken on windows too, don't worry about it for now.
I'll see if I can get some testers for you Smile

Thanks for your work Koda. I'm now playing on my Macbook. I have v0.9.9

It works well so far. I've noticed some probs too with audio sometimes sounding a little crackly.

Another thing, sometimes when you observe a game and then exit, the teams listed don't all fit. The horizontal space is too narrow.

Sometimes in the team selection too the window isn't automatically resized to show the 'Ready' lightglobe.

I have Leopard 10.5.6 and white Macbook 1st gen.

Tested on Leopard 10.5.5

Have some problems with keyboard keys:
- I cannot set weapon time(example for grenade)
- Cannot drop secondary weapon when using rope(enter don't works)

I'm using "Polish Pro" keyboard layout

Tested on Leo 10.5.6 with Polsih Pro keybord setting - the enter works just fine - I have no problem using secondary weapon. I've tested 0.9.9 and 0.9.10-Dev versions.

Ok I found a bug: When typing a message backspace (delete) doesn't work, it creates boxes instead of deleting the digits.

koda would like me to let you know there is a new HEAD build

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/24468/hedgewars-mac-head.tar.bz2

Now. Unfortunately, since *someone* doesn't check in their awesome changes to themes and maps, this build is only using what is actually in subversion, if you want to be in sync with Tiy's builds, you'll need to update the folders inside the tar. Or, you can just play latest svn HEAD against other mac or linux users Smile - or anyone who just uses svn HEAD.

Hello and thanks for producing this! I am new to setting up Hedgewars, so I may be making a novice mistake, but I can't get this to run on OS X 10.4.11. The front menus show up fine, and I am able to create teams and set up a match, but when I try to start a match, I get the following system message: "The application hwengine quit unexpectedly."

Any thoughts on what I might try next?

as koda noted in a prior post, there are some endian issues in the code he hasn't resolved, mostly because he doesn't have a PPC to test on. Unfortunately that means the code stays x86 until he works 'em out.

Hi!
Is it possible to enable the window border in windowed mode? Currently you cannot move the game window, which is a bit annoying sometimes.

Regards,
xindon
