I read an interesting comment posted by Tiyuri on the Q&A blog post...
Very amazing ideas, but i have some suggestions in my mind, that i'd like to discuss about with you Smile

are you planning on improving the AI in the (near) future?

Not just yet, we're focusing on perfecting the network game right now, as we think it's probably one of the more important parts of the game.

That said, we do have plans for the AI.

First of all, we want to eventually include single player missions in the game. These missions will give you set goals, it might be collecting a crate, killing all opponents, killing them a certain way.. there are lots of things we could do here.

Next, I want to enable these missions to be played online, cooperatively! So you can try and "complete the game" with your friends.

Third, I want the mission editor to be very simple, and missions will be contained in very small text files, what this means is, you will be able to download new missions directly from the netserver, without us updating the game, and then play those new missions with your friends. Perhaps we'll have a new mission every week or so?

Fourth, I want to add a "survival mode" to netplay, in this mode players team up against the computer, players have 200 health hogs, the computer has hogs with only 50 health, however, every time you kill a hog, a new one appears on the map! You have to see how many rounds you will last, perhaps we'll have a leader board.

Anyway, for all of these things we will need to improve AI, these things aren't coming too soon, so don't get all happy, but those are some of my personal plans that I will try to get implemented.

About single/multiple players missions with different goals I agree at all.
But... following the recent proposed RPG trend, I think it could be nice to have missions like RPG quest.
Explaination:
If you successfully complete the mission/quest, you gain experience points and get a kind of medal, that allow you to compete in other more difficult missions (this last thing could be better planned). Medals should be visible in the player stats, for communicating to the world how skilled you are.
So nothing to be downloaded, just a set (highly expandible in the time) of online rated missions playable with the correct requirements (minimum experience or medals).

Missions could be vs bot teams, or vs other players too.

I hope I haven't forgotten nothing. Big Grin

Well sounds good BUT first of all usually to continue to the next mission B, you have to finish mission A first. So medals for unlocking missions sound kind of useless. About the medals in the player stats - as far as I know all this' planned. Experience + Medals will be shown on the official server. Single player is in MOST cases training for multi since you can never compare AI and a human being. A human opponent acts unpredictable. So counting medals for fighting missions against AI is weird and doesn't really show how good you are. Smile

Maybe I've not explained very well. Smile
I thought about a set of missions, some of them with prerequisites and others only with recommended experience. So, not a sequencial list, but a flexible one: medals in this case sounds like awards, sometimes required for compete in particular missions.

About AI question I can agree with you. Wink Smiley

No, I understood you right. What I meant was that missions are usually set in difficulty order. First missions are easy, than it gets more and more difficult. This is made with a purpose. You need to gain experience so that you can manage to go throug the tough missions. Flexibility here isn't a good thing. You start from 0 and go to 10, not something like 8,4,6,1,2,9,...
What I really want is a good plot behind the missions. Okay, in Worms it definitely wasn't for an Oscar, but still it was fun and it was connected. Here we can go further and make a story-line based set of missions with spys, assasinations, alien invasion etc. Something that will give these missions a replay-value. Smile

Plots are important to me too. Smile
I'm not saying that missions are random-playable, but also not that there should be once a mission for each level of difficulty. I mean: many level 1 ones, that player can freely choose, many of level 2 and so forth... Well, it could be that some (the higher part of) higher level missions needs lower level ones (maybe with the same plot) to be played. This gives you the chance to manage your team to play in different contexts.
Something to make this experience more customizable (like RPG), not just (IMHO) a flat list of sequencial missions. And in this case, medals or other kind of awards (lefting aside experience points) could be necessary, at least to show to the other players your progress. On the same side, missions can be "built" by developers (or anyone can do it) more dinamically then planning whole stories at once.

All this to say that our concepts can live together. Wink Smiley
Let me know.

P.S. Is anyone else interested to this topic? It appears like a conversation between rbaleksandar and me. Big Grin
