Can't connect to Official Server
Mon, 2010-05-17 13:56
Me and my friend just downloaded Hedgewars and were quite eager to play our first game against each other, but we can't connect to to Official Server (Can't play via hamachi as well, but that's beacuse of it, I think). We both receive the following error: Connection timed out, and after this another one: Connection to server is lost.
I googled it and I couldn't find anyone else having the same problem... Can anyone help us?
Hi Sitalia!
Unfortunately the server is currently DOWN :/
This hardly ever happens (I think this is the second time since I started playing hedgewars) and that is why we have no easy way to restart it yet, we have to wait for unC0Rr :/
You can use another (private) Server for playing anyway, e.g. by hosting yourself or:
As a temporary solution I can offer to you to use nemo's server:
* instead of "official server" select lan game.
* then click "specify" (the button in the middle of the button row)
* enter m8y.org as server address (leave the port as it is, 46631)
* click ok to join then create a room and play ^^
Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope our official server will be up again as soon as possible!

Ah, great! Thank you! I already wondered why I was the only one experiencing this problem... This explains it then. Thanks a lot
You're welcome
also:
nemo's hedgewars-server ( m8y.org ) is usually online too.
We sometimes use it for testing, but you can use that one for regular games also.

Okay, it works well so far, I was able to join a game with my friend. Problem now: My game laggs incredibly, I got 1 or 2 fps maximum, whereas my friend can play without any lags at all... I can play new games without any problems, and we both use Windows 7 64 bit. I had the same problem with Teeworlds (If anyone know it), some people could play it without any problems, some as me could only sometimes. It was possible they started it and they couldn't even quit it (except with the task manager), because it was so laggy, and sometimes they could play it without any problems...
Can anyone help me again?
EDIT: Re-installed the game, no use
There's a thread regarding this: http://hedgewars.org/node/2086
Try if the lag vanishes if you disable all voice chat applications ( skype, teamspeak, ventrilo, mumble, etc. ) or any other applications that use sound if that doesn't help :P

Ah yeah, already saw that thread, it didn't help
Thanks anyway... any other ideas?
As I'm afraid that "change your operating system?" doesn't qualify as "idea":
nope, none for now, not from me :/
I hope this issue gets solved soon, it seems to bother quite a couple of people :/ Probably it isn't even caused by our code, but by the SDL libraries we use.

It's really strange that the difference between w7 64 bit home and w7 64 bit ultimate causes such problems... We wanted to play it at a LAN next week, but it's impossible like that ...
Thank you for your help anyway
Okay, sometimes when I try to start a game I get the following error message:
Last two engine messages:
Loading D:/Hedgewars 0.9.13/share/hedgewars/Data/Themes/Bamboo/Splash [flags: 5]... failed
Loading D:/Hedgewars 0.9.13/share/hedgewars/Data/Graphics/Splash [flags: 7]... failed due to size
And when I reduce my resolution to 640x480 (window mode), I just have little lags... it still isn't really enjoyable, not only because of the little lags, but also because of the resolution...
Maybe this helps in some way.
This should help you with the splash error. http://hedgewars.org/node/2073
Press any key to continue, or any other key to cancel.
Thank you all again, I just installed my new graphic card drivers (seemed to have forgotten them the last time i reinstalled windows), now everything works fine and we'll have a great game for next week's LAN. Thanks!
