Hey guys,

I run a small to medium size LAN event, I'd love to get a Hedgewars tournament going at my event.

The only problem is there is NO internet access.

I've tried playing around with the various options trying to get a working LAN lobby going, but with no success. I can get the server to run, but it does not broadcast to the lan/clients, or the clients dident look for a server. Does anyone have a "guide" or any tips on how to setup a LAN lobby?

Cheers guys,

Update:

The client isnt requesting a server list, or the server is broadcasting it's self.

Is there anything I can do here? Is there a setting somewhere, or an additional command I need to enter to the console to enable broadcast?

Cheers,

Might be blocked by some firewall etc. or the server isn't running at all (one client has to start it unless you run it from command line).

If possible just setup an easy IP or domain name. People connecting just have to use the LAN game button and then join by IP (button at the bottom).

There isent a firewall on my 2k3 box that the server is running on. The server is also started from the cmd, hedgewars-server.exe -d true.

Just now, while I'm playing around/testing I'm using the ip of the server to connect. It isent practical to do this at a LAN event. People WILL forget the ip. If there isent a way to do it, I'll get a whiteboard and write it up i guess.

Cheers for the reply Smile

Didn't test it so far but I think you should be able to use the computer name you set in "control panel" -> "system".

So just give it some easy to remember name and test it - could be useful for other games as well. Just name it "server" or "serverbox" or something similar and people might be able to use that instead of an IP.

So Hedgewars can resolve DNS names? That could be handy.

It uses the operating system's way to resolve host names - so, yes, should be able to do so.
