Mac 10.4.8 won't play with sound On

Hi--love what you are doing with Hedgewars. Problem is, I can't get it to run so well.
It "can" run with sound Off at just about any resolution setting, but I can't for the life of me get it to run with sound On.
I can play it just fine without sound, but I would love me some sound. Any thoughts on the problem I may be having? Thanks.
Mac OS 10.4.8
Mac Mini G4 PPC
Hedgewars 0.9.15 Universal

Have you updated to the latest audio drivers?Try running system upddate (from the apple menu in thebar up the top).
Style is spelled style not stile.
Use Dropbox to backup your important goodies!
Yep. I'm completely up-to-date on everything.
I'm also running 1GB RAM--that's the max my Mac will take (time to upgrade).

Just wondering. Do any other SDL based games have audio?

Hmm... interesting question. What about SDL would mean that audio would not work?
Audio plays on the app intro screen just fine, but I am assuming that the intro screen is not SDL.
Is the Ogg format critical for sound in SDL? Does Ogg have proper Mac support?
I have read some of the other forum posts, and it seems that audio is often a key issue in the success of the app running--its one of the first suggestions "have you turned off the audio?" Why is that an issue?
I have also read the posts on compiling my own app, but the instructions are over my head for someone who does not program anything more than CSS/HTML and an occasional AppleScript. I don't work in Terminal much, so unless things are spelled out, I have some trouble when I drop my GUI for keying.

umhhhhh
what happens if you try to compile it yourself?

I seriously considered doing this, but I don't understand the instructions--the problem is between my keyboard and my chair. The last time I programmed, it was in Basic on an Apple II circa 1982. I can dig around on my Mac, but I get stuck at the command line every so often.
I get stuck with things like this:
• "Extract the sources and open the relative .xcodeproj file."
• The Pascal Compiler is for Intel Macs and I'm PPC. (I will try and locate a PPC one this weekend)
• "It is likely that you will need to adjust some parameters, such as the Base SDK you have installed and for which architecture (ppc, i386, x86_64) you want to build."
So, I would be all about compiling it, but the instructions are a little over my head--I plan on poking at it a little bit more, and I'll report back here hopefully in a week.
