While roping earlier, i noticed a small problem while "water skipping"

I'm sure you all know what it is. For those who don't, you just have to get a high speed through swinging and then, when just a little above water, let go of the rope at the bottom of your swing.
This should make the hog go flying almost parallel to the water, and if done correctly, your hog should skip across the water a few times.

Anyway. What I've found is that while skipping, if you use the rope, and in the time where the hog is shooting the rope you hit the water, the hog automatically sinks, no matter how fast you were going.

Why is that, and could it maybe be fixed?
