Hello everybody, i speak like a humble shoppa player, 'cause i've never collaborated in HW development, and i want only to give a feedback about new features in hw .16 version.
It seemed to me, but is not only my sensation, to feel like a bag of stones while moving in shoppa mode.
I noticed that releasing rope, acquire speed and moving in general is slower than .15 version.
I don't know if it depends to my pc charateristics or depends to a program modify at all.
My intention is only to give an opinion for the improvement of the game, cause this change affects the gameplay and the pleasure of a good shoppa match Big Grin
Thanks
Geppetto

I'm surprised.

That's what some other shoppa players told me before and after release:

"I've been playing Shoppa with the current dev-version. Everything is quite fine - I even get the impression that I am faster with the new version."

"[...] it's more fluid.
[...]
im proud of this version
shoppa talking
cause the latest ones were going the wrong way"

So not sure why people experience shoppa so differently.

But since not everybody uses rope the same way...
Maybe the slight rope changes had a positive impact on some shoppa/roping styles, but a negative impact on others.

Feel free to upload a .16 and/or .15 demo of your roping style, I'm curious to see how _you_ move with rope and how the changes affect that.

Thank you for playing Hedgewars and for sharing your opinion and experiences with us Smile

ok i got news...
I made tests.
the slowering happens only in shoppa race mode, it's like feeling a bag of potatoes...
i've 1.66 ghz 3 gb ram, hedgeking said that presence of race timing can affect game speed, it can be?
some suggestions?
thanks

ok i've other news about this problems:

normal shoppa > cpu level about 45%
race shoppa > cpu level about 90%

after few minutes overheating causes slowering the game.
now i've few questions:

Someone else noticed this big difference in cpu using?
How can be that so similar game mode have these different behaviours?
How can be that a game like hw that seems not so cpu-consuming (with all the respect) uses 90% cpu?
There's a possible solution?
What's the secret of life, the universe and everything?
thx

Oh I forgot to ask... please state what particular maps/modes are slow for you.
since there is trophyrace map, "racer" style/gameplaymode, etc.

I looked at their source...

They weren't really written with performance issues in mind.

Especially racer could be improved.
It captures and draws the "ghost"-data way too frequently and the player should be able to disable ghost anyway.

On all scripts things that are checked every 1/1000 second could actually be checked only every 1/100.
It's not like we need to measure the race time up to the thousandth of a second.
Hundredth should be totally sufficient. ( http://www.hedgewars.org/node/2089 )

Well, please tell me what maps/modes exactly are troublesome for you.
I can fix those first and upload them to the DLC so that you can use them right away.

wow thx for support!
problem came up only in race mode, in every map, as i know.
first 5 minutes, all ok, but then with cpu at 90 % think overheating starts giving problems.
thanks for investigating!

If this happens all the time, please post your game0.log

There's a decent chance you are using software rendering for the game.
Things to try.
* Check to see you have the latest version of the graphics driver for your graphics card. If under Ubuntu Linux, try System->Administration->Additional Drivers
* Disable compositing for your desktop. In Windows that'd be optimise for speed. Ubuntu Linux, try signing in to Ubuntu Classic without Effects
* Try Reduce Quality - it is the slider in the config prefs. More to the left lowers stuff.
* Try a smaller game window size

It'd be interesting to know what your frame rate is. You can enable that in config prefs.

Gesteppo:

If the stuff nemo suggested didn't help:
Please start your game, click "Downloadable Content" in the main window and click the link I put on there for you.

After that play Racer as usual and let me know if it's any better.

Also, if you're using sheepy's link, keep in mind you won't be able to play with anyone else online unless they also clicked that link. Not that you'll have any way of knowing. < / cough>

That's incorrect mikade.
I named the script like the original, since it's compatible.
So he can play with others.
We both played together with others using that script yesterday already :P

Doh, visual changes only? How sly. Oh wellllll, I stand corrected. I still think mixing scripts (visual changes only or not) is kind of a bad practice, but if it works it works I guess. Smile
