[Script] Strategy script (girder and other things end turn) (DISCONTINUED)

NOTE: This script has been discontinued in favor of my new script, Game Hacks. Game Hacks includes an improved version of this script. Strategic mode can be enabled by adding “strategictools=true” to the script parameter.


I have made a simple script which makes Hedgewars more “strategic” by putting the emphasis on turn-based play. More weapons and tools will end the turn, so using those isn’t “cheap” anymore.

The following weapons which would normally not end a turn will end the turn when using this script (retreat time in brackets):

  • Girder (5s)
  • Rubber (5s)
  • Dirt Ball (3s)
  • Land Spray (4s)
  • Resurrection (3s)
Currently, the retreat time is fixed and can not be modified by the game scheme.

This script only works with latest experimentals (pre 0.9.21)!

You can combine this script with any game and weapon scheme you like and it should cause no problems.

This script (softly) recommends to use the Strategy weapon scheme and game scheme and selects it as default, when available. You can find said schemes here (scroll down):

But this is entirely optional.

I hope this will become a regular game modifier.

Like a Button in settings that turns "everything ends turn" on/off.

Or maybe a tri-state button (combined with infinite attack), that switches between those states:

  • "Weapons/utilities never end turn"
  • "Most weapons/utilities end turn [default]"
  • "All weapons/utilities end turn"

My favourite option would be this: Make this configurable in weapon schemes on a per-weapon basis. Add a new tab “Ends turn” in the weapon scheme editor and for the weapons and tools, there is a simple yes/no switch.

However, there should be some utilities which never end turn and it should be not be possible to disable this behaviour for technical reasons:

  • Extra Time
  • Switch Hog
  • Low Gravity
  • Extra Damage
  • Vampirism
  • Laser signt
  • Invunerability
  • (similar tools)

It would be really confusing if low gravity could end your turn. Wink Smiley

But if sheepluva’s suggestion gets implemented, that would be also cool.

This script is now officially deprecated, my new script “Game Hacks” has consumed it and I made some improvements.

The retreat time percentage works now.
