Any interest in a new Shoppa tournament for this year?
Hello. Just dropping by for thoughts and opinions on -as the title says- community interest in another Shoppa tournament this year, and if the amount of interest is appropriate enough for some consideration towards planning a new one.
With last year's tournament a moderate "success" (IMO, given the number of players who signed up, around a busy holiday schedule) plus some of the encouraging reviews that some players gave, saying it was better managed than the previous year's tournament, I think it's around the ideal time to think about if we want one this year too.
That is, if we're going to have one in Nov-Dec 2015 (or somewhere around that point).
A few 'Why we should' reasons I can think of atm (ofc there are plenty more):
- Tournaments are a great way to encourage community interaction. Alongside showcasing competitive/organized Shoppa's fun side, it also allows both new and experienced players with having a go at some challenging and simply fun roping :3
- Keep the tradition of having a Shoppa tournament per year, going. Would be a shame to have the somewhat-chain that we've been having over the last few years broken now right?!
- Give a great excuse for occasional-players like me to spend time playing the next, improved version of Hedgewars (would like to hear from the devs with regard to this one, release schedule wise)
I'm actively thinking about the possibility of hosting one myself, or supporting someone else on this if I find enough interested folks who'd be willing to participate.
I'm aware that there might be concerns out there about the risk of having a tournament go stale, with loads of delays and mis-scheduling, and that's part of the reason why I'm even posting this.
So yeah, thoughts and opinions pl0x ^^
Note: Here's hoping my decision to post on the forum, instead of idling on the server waiting for people to talk to, works :P
I will probably be in such a tournament. Why? Mostly just for teh lulz!
(But other schemes / game modes would be nice, too.)

Nemo means the tournament should take place after version 0.9.22 has been released.
That probably won't be a problem, there is plenty of time until November/December 2015.
Nemo also wants to update the ShoppaKing map (it includes the names of the winners of the previous Shoppa tournaments).
I don't think air mines would be accepted in a shoppa tournament, unless only in crates maybe. But not littered on the landscape.
A Shoppa game with air mines wouldn't be Shoppa anymore, but it would probably be a legit variant of Shoppa.
Also, I am unsure how well the air mines will be received by the players. I have no idea, to be honest. XD

sooo.. seems like shoppers nowadays aren't a lot.. maybe I can try to ask on server/link here players to see how many players could/would play it and then if enough organize it.. Most of shoppers really want a tournament but we need more players.

Hey guys, I'm back after working in South Africa for a year, and I'm personally veeeery very interested in a shoppa tournament! And even if there's not going to be a tourney because of a lack of players, maybe we'll meet on the servers and just play a few rounds. Hell I must be out of practise

I would prefer it without air mines, but I would not rage quit because of them.
The Shoppa scheme has air mines by default since 0.9.22.
We might want to use a custom Shoppa variant again, if nobody likes air mines. xD

That's a definite yes.
And if you are going to allow it, I can make a flag for every person who signs up and for top 3 It may be more decorated, make a hat or a map with the podium. That decision I'm going to leave to you, Nexia!
