As long as steam is not required to play the game, I don't disagree that idea...

it is easier and more comfortable, updates are installing automatically, you have news etc.

Now I think that is time for it. Have you thought about Steamworks?

Anyway we need automatic update in hedgewars, downloading and installing new version always is not that comfortable.
+ option to send bug reports
+ option to send suggestions from the game updater or sth you know...

not a big fan of valve and steam and i have not seen a working copy in linux without using wine. maybe when that happens i would like the idea. just my .02
