Hi,

Would this MINIX NEO Z83-4 Windows 10 PC be suitable for running Hedgewars smoothly?

Thanks.

I couldn't find any information in there on its graphics card, but if it can run Windows 10 smoothly, it can certainly run Hedgewars, which was intended to run well on machines built like 15 years ago.

Thanks for your reply Nemo. It is refreshing to see a game that does not require a lot of resources. Smile

I think Hedgewars should run fine on the MINIX NEO Z83-4. However, as the system only has 32GB of space (and a clean Windows 10 install takes up around 20GB alone), I think I will consider a more traditional desktop tower when the time comes.

Hedgewars does not take up much space *if* you put the Data directory on an external usb drive, then change the hedgewars launcher to point to this new --data-dir directory

p.s. - 32 gigabytes is a gigantic amount of space... In Linux world anyway

Thanks for the tip. However, on my older Windows system the Hedgewars data folder is only 11.4MB, so it would be unlikely to cause a space issue.

uh....
I think you're confusing data and executables.
$ du -hs bin Data
12M bin
171M Data

The music in particular takes a fair amount of space, so if windows is sucking up all the free space you might have to move it. 'course.. there's no sane reason for an OS to take up more than a few gigabytes... (okok, yes, I realise windows lacks the advantage of FOSS ability to package almost anything and winsxslite is not guaranteed safe)

Thanks for clarifying. I see I have a Data folder (with the Music sub-folder) located where the main Hedgewars executable resides, and this is larger at 148MB.

Yeah and long ago we added --config-dir and --data-dir as hedgewars launch options for portable configurations to easily run off a flash drive. It would help in this case too. --config-dir is where your saves/demos/teams/logs/local data go, --data-dir is that data folder with all the game assets.
