About the user interface window and it's functionality
When hosting games the interface has some problems or needs some tweaks, imho:
'Playing teams' shows mostly 5 teams at once and can not be resized. This makes hosting games with 6-8 teams difficult when people are coming and going. Please make the border between top (game options and teams) and bottom (chat and players) parts movable.
'Room controls' should have 2 extra features. 'Friends only' would allow only players on your friends list to join. 'Restrict VPN' would restrict VPN users from joining.
When the room host is changed while in game, the interface is not shown to the new host before the game ends. This makes it impossible - for example - to kick abusive players during that game. Please make it accessible.
Btw, it would be great if you could set an automatic colour for players on your friends list.
These are some good and reasonable quality-of-life suggestions. I've added most of them to our bug tracker.
The only exception: I dislike the idea of restricting VPNs. Discriminating against a certain technology seems pretty arbitrary. I dislike the "shotgun" approach of moderation where you're willing to hit innocent people in the crossfire to keep out the bad ones.
).
There are many good reasons to use a VPN. You can always remove abusive players with the standard kick feature. Well, OK. Almost always (because of that delegation bug
The problem about delegation is a bug. If you cannot access the kick or room control features when the room was delegated to you, that defeats the purpose of delegation. Thanks for pointing that out.
What do you mean about "automatic color" for your friends? Friends already appear green in your list.
Hi, I am a Hedgewars developer.
Team colours.
other thoughts:
I would like the number of teams added by a player to be indicated next to the player's name. Then everyone know who should add or remove a team.
When the room host is changed while in game, she/he might not know if a greeting message is set (sometimes its a prank). Mostly if the greeting is set after he/she joined. I think the greeting message should be displayed to everyone in room so everyone know it, mostly to avoid bad pranks. And when the host is changed, it should be displayed again to the new host as a reminder.
