Sorry, I didn't find the search anywhere on the forum, so it's possible this suggestion already exists.

So, I believe it would be an incredibly awesome feature to ZOOM in and out the rendered game picture, including the landscape, hedgehogs and everything. For instance, with the mouse wheel, as it's done in lots of games.

This feature will make the aiming much more easy, as well as observing the overall game situation.

Furthermore, the zoom scale should not return to 100% automatically, allowing user to play, seeing the whole picture at once.

Currently, user has to scroll the map here and there moving the mouse, trying to remeber the positions of hedgehogs... It's not comfortable at all.

What do you think guys?

P.S. And thanks for the excellent game, of course! Wink Smiley

I'd rather like to see some kind of (optional/set through game rules) semitransparent minimap with team colored dots. Smile

Smaxx is correct. I was looking into a toggleable minimap - especially critical for small displays on large maps. Is on the todo list.

My planned approach was to generate something similar to the map preview in uLand.pas, update it as needed based on the damage possibly using the LandTextures update.

And, yeah, coloured dots for team positions.

Okey, I thought of it of course as wel, but zooming could be more entertaining... Doesn't SDL provide any simple algorithms for sizing the canvas, or what do you use to draw?..
Anyway, minimap is a good solution, too. Thanx.

I think minimap is better. Zooming will need much more power since you zoom the whole thing. The minimap can show only silhouettes of the terrain and objects. Dots for teams would be nice. Smile

Zooming would, I guess, be disableable for old video cards. Personally doesn't hold a huge attraction for me.

At any rate, definitely zooming out would be more useful than in, since the pixel art would kind of look ugly zoomed in much.

unc0rr, what issue with zooming, mouse offsets?

I've just made some screenshots, combined them into 1 picture and tried resizing it to see the most comfortable scale. It looks like 50-75% is the best range. 32x32 pixels is too big for one single hedgehog -> Shocking

And, I'll tell you a secret - I'm currently assembling myself a so-called carpc (a computer to be always in my car, for GPS, video capturing, movies, internet, and for games too Smile ). I've just recieved a 7" touch screen monitor for it, with native resolution 800x480, and I already can feel that hedgewars won't be very comfortable to play with such resolution Smile I can make it bigger of course, but I won't be able to change it during the game if needed Smile This is just one more reason for my ZOOM suggestion Big Grin

P.S. Here's a screenshot for you to see what I mean. The two rectangles are what I would see with the original scale with 800x480 resolution, and what would I see if the picture was 75% smaller.
