Theme spam continues!

After over a year of limbo, I finally decided to finish this theme and here it is. I presented it in my WIP topic, but now there's the official one.

It's a dark factory/industrial theme with lots of smoke and pollution. Hope you like it.

I like the idea, but I don't think it fits the hedgewars graphics style. Needs a lot of redrawing... something I would probably say about all your themes.

Nice theme, I really like the idea... Perhaps it needs a more 3-D vision it seems a little bit flat. Congrats for your themes btw Wink Smiley

I really like how hogs can get into the pipes, i think that's an original idea

So, I meant to comment on this three months ago but got distracted by moving. I even played with the properties a little. Anyway, I just wanted to say I really liked the background of this theme, but overall felt that the various elements could be a bit darker. I get that you are going for the whole "radioactive spill" thing, but it still seemed that the land was too bright given the comprehensive cloud cover. The background also seemed a tad sharp, so I would consider blurring it a bit.

Your changes seem ok. I'm not sure about the water, because it now looks more like a sewer than toxic waste, but making it all darker is a fair point when I look at it again. Could you provide the files?

Anyways, this theme now officially uses the very important new feature, which makes object placement much better. Also, there's new music. However, I'm making a Volcano theme and this music is also perfect there, so I might revert it. Volcano theme won't come soon though, so whatever.

It's nice to see how the theme has improved over time.

Land objects are good/okayish. Land texture is nice.

Background is nice and simple. For the background I would like to see a horizont layer, otherwise the background feels too flat.

The water color is weird. The normal water looks more dangerous to me than the Sudden Death water. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I don't like the fake land. Especially the leaking pipe is nasty. The green goo is not land. This is outright evil. Imagine you are roping and you try to hit the green goo and then fall into your doom …
Please don't do things like this.
The green goo of that land object should either be removed or the whole object is just simple ordinary land.

The other pipes in which you can walk: Meh, it might be okay, just note that pretty much no other theme makes use of this. But I think it's no big deal, players will figure it out eventually and it's not a death trap like the leaking pipe. But to me it still looks like a normal land object, which is not ideal.
I would make the inner part of the pipe much darker, however. Maybe similar darkness as the landbacktex? That way it can't be confused with normal land.

The Sudden Death is okay, just the water doesn't fit IMO. The background in SD becomes so dark, it is hard to see anything. No idea if this is intended.

I also suggest to add flakes for pre-SD. Maybe some rotating gears. You could probably one of the sprites.

The danger sign is weird. Looks like it has been accidentally mirrored.

The placable girder texture is interesting, but looks like a candy bar. I would consider reverting to the default girder instead. It's just too perfect for the theme. I also think the girder and rubber textures don't always have to be customized.

Overall, the theme is okay.
Worst issue to me is the fake land of the leaking pipe. This is a no-go for me.
The other issues are minor things which are (hopefully) not too hard to fix.

Yeah. It's a funny story, because years ago I played a game, where there was hydrochloric acid, which basically looked like SD water does now. For some reason, I thought it's a good idea. I'll just make the water more toxic version of normal one then.

Would it be enough if the liquid was much much more transparent (like, barely visible)? I like it personally.

Hmm, I don't know. The smoke is also semi-transparent but solid land.

Maybe maybe if the liquid is very very subtle, but even then I'm not sure.

Personally, I would just make the whole object solid. Because solid land is what the players are used to, not some fake land designed to troll players. Big Grin

I'm just gonna dissent a bit and say I think it is fine...

IMO so long as there's something indicating it like darkness (cutaway) or blurriness (further back) or translucency, I think folks will manage.

If entire theme is translucent objects it'd be sadistic, but so long as it stands out from other stuff...

Also, people probably would figure it out quick, would require special set of circumstances for them to be roping and not have discovered this prior w/ a 'zooka or whatever.

So, yeh, I'd be fine w/ translucent. If you wanted to be paranoid, could angle pipe back into "background" too, and add some blurriness too ☺

That's not my fault that there's a feature in this game used by literally no one. If not me, no one besides devs would know that you can mask land objects. Not to mention many features I personally requested and even coded. I just use any customization I have available if I feel like it's needed. (except rubbers; I mod them just because since I discovered it's a thing)

Anyways, I made that pipe liquid more subtle. Also, normal pipes have much darker interiors. Also, the sign is fixed (no idea why it was like that). Also, SD water is greener normal water (actually, original water was around this color). Also, amGirder has different colors. Also, also.

I know you said that now it would be DLC candidate, but there's no version number yet. See if you can DLC-add the new numbered pack I posted in my WIP/all topic or just wait until 0.9.23 so I'll sort it all out. (maybe Sanctuary will be finished by then too)

That's an interesting point, because recently I started to notice that packaged assets may be lacking something that game offers.

Impressive to see many themes that you've made. I wonder if I can reuse some in campaign with attribution?
