I compiled Hedgewars 0.9.7 and SVN version. The thing is that on City, Bamboo, Hell, Freeway, Island, Sheep and Snow themes the terrain after explosion is disappearing next explosions slowly recovers terrain in radius of hit. It looks like that
- Begining
- First Shot
- Second Shot

On the Bath and Underwater themes the game freezes while it's loading so i have to restart Xserver.

Game is compiled under Ubuntu 8.10 with:
- Cmake 2.6.0
- Freepascal 2.2.0
- Qt dev 4.4.3
- SDL 1.2
- Intel Atom 1.6 GHz with HT

Here is the debug0.txt file

Most probably the game overflows video memory size... Hmm, what is the video memory size on eee?

I've just compiled 0.9.7 version on a Toshiba A100-803 (Mesa DRI Intel(R) 945GM 20061102 x86/MMX/SSE2)
And the map dissapears when shooting and explosions...

Thanks for this great game!

Well, I have a Dell Inspiron 640m with an integrated Intel video card and I get the same issue under Ubuntu intrepid.

So it's not just an EeePC glitch.

Can you prove it's an Intel driver problem? No other game I've played on my Lenovo N500 behaves like this, so perhaps there's something else going on.

Just installed Hedgewars on Ubuntu 8.10 Inrepid Ibex and the textures disappear for me too. Seems to be a wonderful Worms clone, though, and I'd love to start playing it soon.

P.S. The previous version of Hedgewars suffers from this bug too.

By previous you mean 0.9.6 or smth like 0.9.2? Yes, it's most probably intel videodriver problem. Other games don't use so large textures - that is the difference. We're working on this issue.

Well, the problem might not come from Intel or it might but just partially. I tried it on a PC with integrated Intel video and it worked just fine. All of it.
EDIT: What about Intel + Ubuntu. How many of you guys have problems playing it with Intel video and on Ubuntu machine?

Effectively it could be Intel video driver on ubuntu. What operating system is using your friend Ash?If he use Ubuntu, can you post his Xorg.conf?

He's using Windows XP I'm afraid, I can't remember if it's home or professional version though.

Aren't there windows emulators for Ubuntu?

Yes, there are, but I think it's quite annoying have to use a windows emulator if we can install it on Ubuntu. Ok, so I think effectively the problem are intel drivers for ubuntu. Maybe we can post the problem on launchpad and see if anybody can answer and resolve it. If you want I'll do this as soon as possible.

@Magik: Did you try 0.9.8? Do you have the same bug?

I recently upgraded from an ancient X.org (7.1) to a more recent one (7.4), and I noticed this issue on a Dell Inspiron 1525 (Intel GMA965). It’s not an Ubuntu issue (as I don’t use Ubuntu), and for now, it could be either an intel driver (2.4.2 currently) issue or something to do with the DRI driver in Mesa 7.2

Update to intel driver 2.4.3 seemingly fixed this issue.

EDIT: retracting that :/ It worked fine once, but not the next time. Ditto for 2.6.1.
Let’s see if messing with Mesa helps any...

This is an reply

Hi !

I think the bugs description is wrong :
- I don't think the problem is with the video driver because the same happens with a S3 card. I guess the problem is an incompatibility with mesa.
- The " little problem " makes the games unplayable, because the map is no longer displayed Sad Smiley

There is a workaround. It looks like the problem is in the selective redrawing of the map, in uLand.pas :
| procedure UpdateLandTexture(Y, Height: LongInt);

| begin
| glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, LandTexture^.id);
| glTexSubImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, 0, Y, 2048, Height, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, @LandPixels[Y, 0]);
| end
if I hack those lines to make them redraw the whole map every time (by forcing Y=0 and Height=1023), the problem no longer occurs. Maybe it's a bug in the game triggered by the OpenGL implementation ?

I will cross-post this on the game's forum.

This is the link to that reply

Couldn't having to re-draw the whole map possibly cause some lag? especially with flames on the map.. At least there's a workaround. Smile

Hedgewars uses just about 10 OpenGL functions. It couldn't use them wrong Big Grin It should be a bug in drivers

But he said that he have the same bug even on S3 graphics card.
I don't say that error MUST be in engine, but it must be somewhere.

That mean it's likely not to be in the driver per se, but it could be in Mesa (the OpenGL implementation) or in SDL or in…. To know that it would be good if you (or one other user) could run the game with the free ATI driver.

I will also try to run it with another OpenGL implementation (I'm thinking to Microsoft's software one) to see what happens.

Replying to myself… I tried in a VM and it looks like hedgewars doesn't work with microsoft's software implementation (map displays is bugged but in another way). One would have to try outside a VM to be sure however.
