mbait was going to try that, but never did.
It isn't exactly a simple thing to do.

Even saucer would be tricky.

Heck. Just getting AI to use utilities would require changing current AI weapon use code.

One decent challenge for the shoppa addicts (I find) is to give yourself 1 hog, and 40 allied CPU hogs (5x8).

With a challenge of killing them all without killing yourself or one of them grabbing a weapon.

I don't know about other people, but I would LOVE to see achievements, friends, experience, ranks/levels, matchmaking, and stat pages.
I've played with some really fun people and would like to be able to find them again. If there was a way to add them to a friends list and see when they're online that would be AWESOME!
Stat pages would be cool because you could see your stats(i.e. kills, games played, games won, exp., suicides, etc.) and also your friends stats. Also, you could see the stats of peple your playing against.
Experience would be earned by getting kills and good hits. By reaching certain amounts of experience you can gain levels and possibly unlock weapons, forts, abilities, etc. It would show your opponents level so you could see how good they are.
They're could be an online mode that matched people with similar Exp. and levels so you could fight against similarly skilled players.

Anyways, anything from my list that is added would make me very grateful. Thanks for considering it! Hope the coming versions of HedgeWars are great, they probably will be! Love Eyes! Cake

Friends list is already implemented in actual version. Just rightclick on the nick of your choice and you can add to friends, ignore or follow them which takes you to the room where he actually plays.

Hi!

I'm new here and would like to participate in the development of this great game.

I have two small suggestion:

1.)
When a hedgehog is activated, it's name and team is not displayed.
Therefore it would be nice if the current team's health bar could be highlighted to see who's turn it is.

2.)
When chatting in game and you want to cancel an input, you have to hit Esc first to clear the input and then Return to return to the game.
It would be more intuitive if you could cancel the chat by hitting Esc again additionaly.

I have checked the source code and found at least where to apply the second change (could not find yet where exactly the bars are drawn).
Am I allowed to change it by myself and submit it via Mercurial?

Have a nice day,
muza

By the way - Hedgewars is WAY better than the current Worms Reloaded.

Are you playing the latest version (0.9.13)?

1.) Is already in the game - the health bar of the active team flashes while the pointer (green arrow) is shown. 0.9.14 will introduce a "get ready!" message as well as a short 5 seconds waiting time to swap positions (e.g. for hot seat games).

2.) Feel free to improve that part of the game and then submit/post a patch (either on these forums or as an "issue" on our project page hosted at Google Code).

Your hog would switch positions with another hog.

I'm very new, and still have not played much. But he one thing I would really love to see is a simple one button toggle between Hedgehogs like W*rms had, instead of having to do it the through the weapons panel.

Finally, Worms without the Windows!

mfuisea, main issue w/ speech in other locales is, well, no one has submitted anything decent and the dude who has done them 'till now (Armagon) doesn't speak any others.

He did write a guide (go back a little in the frontpage history) on how to do a decent recording.

Weapon Suggestions:

- Underwater RC Plane (can fly through the air and also through water)
- Shove
- Skunk, walks around the terrain like the cake and poisons all Hogs, which it passes , poisoned Hogs loose 3-8HP per round
- Energybeam (short distance energy beam to shoot Hogs standing in a row)
- Uzi or Minigun ( not as accurate as the shotgun or pistol but therefore shoots 10-30 bullets)
- Terrain Glue (like Napalm, but covers the Terrain with glue, which prevents Hogs from walking and jumping while standing in glue)

Special Weapons:
- Huge Garden Rake ( you select the area with the mouse, and it rakes the whole terrain from top to bottom, like concrete donkey but different )
- Super Melon (you can control the explosion by pressing space)
- Kame-Hame-Ha
- Homing Bee Airstrike ( the plane releases 6 Homing Bees which directly attack the marked spot)
- Crate Airstrike ( it starts raining 10-30 Crates over the whole map)

edit:

also an Ingame Kick Vote kinda function would be nice

I suggest - a fire extinguisher (opposite of the flamethrower) which can freeze mines and oil barrels, stopping them for exploding and crates, stopping them from being taken and hogs, giving them frostbite and slowing their movement speed. These effects can be reversed by fire weapons, large falls which crack the ice and general slow melting over several turns.

It can also put out fires.

In terms of weapon handling it would be a cross between flame thrower and blow torch.

Also I suggest a Reactive/Smart Mine

A fog-of-war-mode like in most strategic games would be great. You could only see things within a certain distance from your hedgehogs (and you cant look through walls). i imagine exciting hide-and-seek(-and-shoot) matches.

Concealed information is tricky in open source, the more that is added, the more people are tempted to disable it.
Although I can think of ways to build it into the engine such that disabling it would risk desyncing the game, making it a bit less tempting.

A small suggestion: save choosed labels above hedgehogs between games or even make it possible to set it in options. Maybe someone as me like to see only HH healthes (without names of HH and team), so i need every game set it.

I want to ask frontend dev for little modification. Make please, that fronend will totally hide window when game starts. With this changes will be much easier to Alt-Tab in Windows and minimize game.

That behaviour was enabled once, but was disabled due to bugginess (like, window completely disappearing for some people, and not coming back)

or something like that.

Guess we could experiment with it again.

I'm curious as to why the frontend would have any impact on alt-tab.

What about something more "easy"?

Ice Thrower: (i.e.: just like the flame thrower... short-medium range) it blocks a hegdehog so that it cannot move for the next turn, even through "Switch" weapon.

Another suggestion: standalone/portable (zero-install) application (at least on MS Windows) so that a player can have his own portable configuration with themes, games, teams, ... and play with friends at their home. Something it's already there: http://portableapps.com/apps/games/hedgewars_portable but could be nice to have the "official" one. Wink Smiley

I think that that is the most official version you are going to get, hedgewars should in itself be portable, but that might not work a hundred percent under windows. I would suggest you use that one.

One of those hedgewars developers. I am specially knowledgeable in lua scripting, and the father of gameplay scripts.

Another weapon: The Duel: just like in the '800s player's hedgehog will slap with a white glove, then both use a gun to shot and (obviously) only player's hedgehog will hit with some damage depending on the distance. Smile

Another one... like above but fencing instead of guns. And the loser will die :O

It IS 100% portable under windows, so much I've created an .iso (and mounted the thing with MagicISO) with just the Hedgewars files and always run it from there (just to avoid fragmentation since the Hedgewars file count is growing fast).

I can post it here (somewhere) in case someone else wants to use it that way.

Some Suggestions:

Quote:
New Scheme Clickers

No Friendly Fire:

Your Attacks will not hurt hogs the same color as you. But keep in mind that you can still hurt them with fall damage or by knocking them into the water.

(Can't think up a name):

If you fall and hurt yourself or get burned by fire, your turn won't end.

Quote:
Other

Quick Edits:

A small list of things you can turn off or on in the scheme without entering the scheme editer.

Bazooka tint:

I think it would be nice if some of the weapons could get tinted your team color too. Maybe you can have the red part of the bazooka shell get tinted the team's color.

Surrender and Bungee:

Two useful utilities that should be added.

Super Health Crates:

Basically health crates except they heal your whole team instead of just one hog. They are also rarer than regular health crates.

EDIT

Signature Color:

When making a team, you choose it's signature color. The team will have that color selected when you add it in the teams list. You can still change the color.

Nice! Don't you have configuration files in your documents and settings\[USER] folder? I actually have not checked my installation but running above PortableApps' HW (without doing anything, no configuration: just run and close the application) and comparing it with the downloaded one, there are 6 new files that probably in the official version are placed somewhere in user's directory. Those, together with teams configurations are probably lost in your "hand made" portable version.

You're gonna have to give me more details about what you're talking about.

By default the files with all the configurations are saved inside %USERPROFILE%\"My Documents\Hedgewars" but if it's not to your taste, you can simply make a batch file or shortcut in a convenient place and simply play around with the "--config-dir" parameter.

_example_
" hedgewars.exe --config-dir=.\config " (in case you carry it around on a flash-drive and wanna keep it close to the game folders)

You can also spend up to 30 whole minutes and write a batch that syncs your files with an external flash-drive, setup an smb share and save them there, or maybe even Dropbox! Just use your imagination... and now that I think about it... think I'll start syncing mine with Dropbox from now on! That way I wave goodbye to both fragmentation, having to use a slow flash-drive device and always have my configurations available to me.

PLUS! You know exactly what's inside the "package", how to change it, no tricks or hidden unpacking or other stuff like that.

I'd like to filter out all the shoppa games for example, as i have absolutely no interest in them.

+1 For replays!
Although i was thinking maybe a replay of the game winning move or so, which was a feature of a certain"hedgewars clone" ( Big Grin ) which i really apreciated.

Addition to themes:

- Different deaths per theme. Lava replacing water for hell, jelly or gelatin for candy, foam for bathroom or kitchen, etc. With different animations, such as grim reaper taking a hog's soul, being trapped in bubbles for foam, burning in lava, etc. It's more an artists task to draw all those frames of animation than a programmer's challenge.

Something harder:

- Weather affecting games. If stars to snow, water would freeze and become solid or just an ice sheet.

Snow freezing water isn't terribly hard (heck, the Freezer already freezes water). But I'm not sure I'm a fan of it gameplay-wise.

Animating water in that fashion is indeed a pain. However, if you just want the water to look more like lava, you could use a much longer water wave sprite, that is more lava looking, and maybe make the water opacity thicker.
I'm not sure it would look nice tho.

What is the "aim" of this feature?
Its not like something exactly "private" goes on in rooms.
Having to have a password for entering a room, sounds like a "unnecessary security/feature".

But that is just my thought Smile
