Hello ropers, welcome to the thread you’ve all been waiting for. 
We’re all excited to have you participate. So let’s get down to it!
Below are the match rules and guidelines.
All players must meet and accept the following conditions in order to participate.
- Have adequate time in order to play versus other players. This could mean having a flexible time schedule for the duration of the tournament, or having to play late-night matches with players from other parts of the world.
- Use only one Hedgewars Forum/Official Server account to sign up, post and participate in the tournament.
- Plan to participate with a “reliable” connection, with which at the minimum the player knows that he/she will not consistently disconnect during matches.
Match Rules & Guidelines 
- Each round will be played to the best of 3 games, except the semi final and final which will be played to the best of 5.
Rounds may be played only on the following maps:
- Ropes
- ShoppaHell (Downloadable)
- ShoppaNeon (Downloadable)
- All rounds must be played using the “Shoppa_Pro” style/script which can be downloaded from here http://bit.ly/1HFlPbg
- Demos
- Demos of every match must be saved by both players as proof of the match being played. Follow this guide to set demos to save automatically http://imgur.com/a/VxdDb
- Subsequently, the respective demos must be uploaded and posted by one of the players in the tournament thread (normally the player held responsible for uploading the demos is the winner).
- On the instance of a match being drawn, the match should be re-played.
- In case of disconnection normally the winner is the player still online. Players are advised to give their opponents another chance in case they timeout to play the round.
- Spectators are encouraged to refrain from chatting excessively or constantly during matches in order to prevent distraction of the players involved. (The room host should kick players which do not comply after being asked to.) Spectators are rather encouraged to chat with (spectator) team chat, which they can do by pressing the “confirmation key” (which is Y by default).
- Results may be posted in the following sort of manner

- The points system works in the following manner
- Winning against an opponent earns 2 points
- Winning without actually playing - such as if your opponent abandons the match or does not show up even after being repeatedly notified(decided and confirmed by organizing team)- earns you 1 points.
- Not being present on time or abandoning the match earns you a negative -1 points.
Finally, any complaints or grievances which might arise may be private messaged to this account, and we’ll try our best to look into it at the earliest.

About rule 5 I want to note that version 0.9.21 allows to rejoin in the same match if not too much time or turns have passed in the meanwhile.
About rule 6 I want to note that everyone can hide the chat by saying “/togglechat” in the chat. Say “/togglechat” again to show it again. However, if you pressed the chat history key, chat is always shown.
I did not understand how the tournament works in overall. Do you have some sort of roadmap?
Are there deadlines?
Which matches do I play? I guess for now against the opponents in my groups, right?
What happens if the group matches are done? Etc. A bit more explanation might help, thx.

About rule 5, yep.. we know that but it's better to restart the match if player that went out(ping out or other) return.
About rule 6, sure, but if player A want to talk with player B and spectators chat too much it's a problem. We just invite to have a common sense.
And yep, play against your group opponents, we hope all matches will be played soon. You have to play 3 matches choosing the maps you want choosing from the 3 listed(all in Ropes, 1 for each map, just choose with your opponent).

Tournament update!
Greetings once again human ropers!
It's been exactly one week and one day since the tournament began, and we're happy to say some great roping has been witnessed in some of the matches that have been completed so far.
However.. we've sadly got three players who have neither played nor contacted their group-stage opponents and risk being dropped out. (Amoedo, Glum reaper, me old school.)
That said, the deadline for completing group stage matches has been decided as Sunday, January 25th 2015 23:59 UTC.
Which means the said players still have a chance to complete their group phase matches before the said deadline kicks in.

Since the deadline has arrived, here is some info about my played matches:
I have played 2 out of 3 matches, against KompleX and amn. But not against me old school.
Me old school seems to have vanished. I got no answer or reaction on the PM I have sent, I have never seen me old school in the Hedgewars server, also not in IRC. Too bad there is also no contact data to be found in the user profile. I also asked people in IRC several times, me old school was only seen a few times in the Hedgewars server. The last time was supposedly one day before me old school's registration, but this isn't sure. Nobody could give me other contact data of me old school.
Me old school did not play any match in the tournament.

For what it's worth, I came online and left a room open for a couple of hours on Saturday and Sunday hoping I'd get a chance to play Glum Reaper. Alas, I would have loved to have played him! I guess he is probably busy with life atm, as he hasn't played any of his other matches as far as I know.

Tournament update!
Hey guys.
The deadline has finally arrived, and here's what's up!
Amoedo, Glum reaper and me old school were all awarded -1 points for every match they missed in their respective groups.
Falkenauge and 1937Barcelona did not play their scheduled
Group D match and were both awarded -1 points.
amn,Wuzzy and KompleX are all tied with 2 points in Group C.
We've decided that this will be resolved with a 3-way knockout. Meaning that amn would play Wuzzy, and the loser would play KompleX. The winner of botch matches would proceed. Note that these matches are required to be played in the single-elimination match format and not best of 3
Finally, we'd like to congratulate all of the ropers that have made it to Round 2. Expect a Round 2 announcement soon!

Congrats to those who made it this far, and good luck to those looking to pass this round.
So without further delay, welcome to Round 2!
Matches in this round will all be played in a similar manner to Group stage matches, except this time, you and your Round 2 opponent face instant elimination if either of you lose.
Round 2 pairings
Al Round 2 participants have no less than 1 WEEK to play the matches with their respective opponents.
May someone kindly explain with which logic the new round matches have been shaped out? Because it seems nonsense.

Wtf? Dudes, this is really nonsense. Some players will instantly face each other even if they ranked 1st?? LOL! In every tournament competition, after the group stage, the matches are decided relying on 1st and 2st of the group table. I'll give you an example (very easy):
1st Group A (cri.thegrinch) vs 2nd Group B (rexdex)
2nd Group A (Hun73r) vs 1st Group B (Mikade)
1st Group C (amn) vs 2nd Group D (Rom1)
2nd Group C (KompleX) vs 1st Group D (eldiablo)
This is fair and really common actually. I suggest to revisit the schedule, this kinda sucks.
The ShoppaCT team decided to use this random generator (Thanks Vatten!) to randomly generate the pairings for Round 2.
IMO, it's perfectly reasonable for this sort of tournament. This is besides the notion that it would arguably makes Round 2 less predictable :P
Finally, I am aware that we've talked about this before. And up till a point, (like I may have mentioned in our conversation) we were actually considering utilizing the exact sort of pairings system you gave an example of.
To put it simply, we find that randomly generated pairings sound reasonable, and fit our preference of how this tournament should be organized.
Needless to say, I don't find any reason to revisit or re-schedule how any of the current pairings were done.
Further feedback is surely appreciated though

Congrats to all people who managed to get into round 2—people of whom I am not part of.
Whatever.
I have seen the round 2 matches which have been posted so far and I have commented some of those. See the respective demo pages. A few matches were nice to watch, I also saw one epic move I never saw before: 50 damage with only a mine. I thought this was impossible because I thought the max. damage of mines is lower.

well.. talking about my matches i think i could play really better.. but on tourney it usual to be more 'nervous'.. What i like on shoppa is that u can always try new moves.. and i have a lots of demos about great moves. Should be nice to do another Shoppa Compilation or something similar. If someone is interested on hit let me know.

Technically the maximum damage of a lot of things ('nades, 'zooka, mines) is 50. The trick is getting into a situation where you impact deeply on the other hog without killing yourself in the process. So long as the 'nade and other hog overlap, you'll do more than the usual 46,47 damage, possibly 50.
