My submission, some animals:

This is actually spawned from an injoke on our forum, and we decided to make some hats on it

My first submission- if I screwed something up or it doesn't meet the submission guidelines, feedback would be appreciated so I can fix it.

EDIT: Blarg, I can already see one mistake... how do I get the background to stay transparent?

Really depends on your editor and the PNG sub format you're saving too (pick 32 bit).

You can use irfan view or photoshop to get an easy transparent background with png

I had the same problem with the background at first, I thought you had to color it black like in worms.

Nah, these use PNGs because they don't suck.

Anyhow, I was reluctant to share this, because I kind of like being the only person to use it, but, this game seems to (currently) lack any sort of transfer feature, so, people can't see the masks of others unless they have them, and flags and graves will just plain crash users who try to use them. Anyhow, I figure I'll share this before someone else "releases" it and tries to take credit for it.

Anyhow, it's Super Saiyan 2 Goku. I tried to put quite a bit of detail into it without overdoing it.

Preview is here:

Spritesheet is here: http://www.emulysianfields.com/images/personal/hedgewars/GokuSS2.png

Anyhow, it's not quite done, it's more of a beta, I guess, as far as images go. I'm not happy with the face. I think I need to add some shading. The hair is almost perfect (in my opinion), but, I think the lines need to be a bit thicker around the edges, as far as fitting the game's style and such goes. I'd also like to make the blue part on his arms a bit thicker and more fluid-appearing.

Anyhow, I know it needs more work than that, so, feel free to offer up suggestions.

Also, please don't mention crust. That isn't there in the sheet, just the animated GIF, since GIFs don't support partially transparent pixels. So, they just put the color of the matte behind any that are partially transparent. I did this from scratch, pixel by pixel, so, I know there is no crust.

I've also made The Rawk Hawk, Trucy Wright, and Magical Trevor, but, I'm don't think I'm done with any of them but the Rawk Hawk. I'd have to check. I know Trev just floats there, and Trucy isn't quite finished.

Listening is the first step, and the last step.

I really like that hat, especially the way hair and lightning is animated.

However as it seams, the hat covers nearly the entire Hedgehog. This doesn't work when using any weapons, since the hedgehogs hand will move as you aim, while the recolored hand of your hat will stand still. So you should better remove the hands.

I would also remove that small part of a foot, since it wouldn't match the rest of the foot's color.
About the hair, I suggest, you soften the black lines a bit, to gain a smoother, less pixelated look.

Nonetheless a pretty nice work.

Thanks, I was rather fond of that feature myself.

Yeah, I figured that out part-way through on another hat, but this was my first one, and I forgot to update it. Can you give me a good example of a weapon that I can test on, to ensure it looks good, or will any weapon do?

Um... I thought I removed everything that sticks out past the 32 pixels, so, which part of the foot? And I agree about the hair, I definitely intended to. It's just, when I first used the sprite sheet, I was under the impression that I could draw whatever so long as it was on the hedgehog itself. I later understood that it cuts off around its waistline, and every 32 pixels of height is what counts, and the hedgehog in the background is just to show you *where* the hat will go. However, I thought I had a lot less height than I did, so thick black lines sounded like a bad place to start. XD

Thanks. This was literally my first hat, although I've done quite a bit of graphic design before, so, it's really just about finding the style. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll work on what you've given me and post a new rendition of it when I have one. Any further suggestions by anyone else will always be appreciated. =]

Most weapons will do. Like the Roket-launcher, or any gun-type weapon.
Just select any weapon and aim a bit up and downwards.

It's not anything below the 32 pixel line. What I mean is that small part of the right foot, below the mouth.

Ah, okay, I found that. Do you think there is any way I could get rid of the arms, but keep the sleeves? It looks to me like it would just have arms going out of the range of the sleeves.

Sorry to double-post, but, I wanted to make sure I got Lortinak's attention.

I'm pretty sure I've fixed most everything, and I got the hair as good as I can get it, as hair that is 2 pixels thick looks atrocious.

Let me know what you think:

http://www.emulysianfields.com/images/personal/hedgewars/GokuSS2.png

If you've already looked at it, you may have to refresh to see the new one. I don't feel like making an animated GIF of this one, so, the sprite sheet will have to do.

Looks good so far.
I think it is okey, to let the hands move a bit of the sleeves. Since there should be an arm between hand and sleeve anyway (at least in theory).

Maybe you should consider bluring out the eyebrows a little bit. the seem a bit to sharp for me.
The orange part of his Clothes is possibly a bit low. To me it looks a bit like they are only part of the faces shading (they aren't, are they?)
Maybe you could also add a bit of blue at the collar, so it looks more like his gi from the show. (Not sure how it would turn out however)

Yeah, I tried it out, and it looks fine, so, I suppose I'll keep it like that.

That was on purpose, because I was trying to make it obvious that he had a stern look on his face, and if you remember from the show, his eyebrow muscles were very pronounced when he was using a lot of power, especially in SS3. I'll try it though, and see if it looks better, but, not right now. I'm gonna play right now. XD

Well, his clothes are supposed to go down to his pants. Given that they don't infringe on his feet, I think everything is okay. I'm not sure what you're saying about the face's shading in relation to the pants, though. Anyhow, I haven't shaded the face yet, and I'm not sure if I'm going to. Looking at how far it's come, I'm no longer certain shading the face would keep with the style. I'll try that, too, and compare it to without, but, I'm doubtful.

I will try that, but, I think there may not be enough room to execute it well.

Anyhow, I have a couple more that I touched up, so, I'm releasing them now. If you have any suggestions, let me know. I know Trucy looks a bit odd, but, I figured I'd make the hedgehog look like her, rather than just having it like a mask over her face.

The Rawk Hawk (from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door)
http://www.emulysianfields.com/images/personal/hedgewars/RawkHawk.png

Trucy Wright (from Apollo Justice)
http://www.emulysianfields.com/images/personal/hedgewars/Trucy.png

Magical Trevor (from the weebl series)
http://www.emulysianfields.com/images/personal/hedgewars/Trev.png

And Pope, I actually really like the eyes on that dunce hat. I would say to try to make the borders of it look less pixely, and it'd be fantastic, for what it is.

Listening is the first step, and the last step.

Goku and Trucy are entirely from scratch, Trev is ripped from a flash animation by someone called weebl, but, it's widely known that he doesn't mind stuff like this, (someone even posted one of his flash animations on their own website of the same name as the animation, and he didn't mind because they were weren't profiting from the animation itself, so they were just publicizing him; this would be seen as a fan-work anyhow) and the Rawk Hawk is from an image ripped directly from a video game, but, both of the latter fall under the fair-use clause of any copyright law.

In any event, I know quite a bit about video game laws, and Nintendo has likenesses copyrighted, superseding even original images. Mario and Luigi are ESA-protected, so, you'd have a problem with the Mario and Luigi masks way before you'd have any sort of problem with the Rawk Hawk, a minor character from one chapter of a specific paper mario game. Not to mention Sonic, and quite a few others. To give you an idea, even Super Smash Brothers isn't ESA-protected, as there are no title-characters that have copyrighted likenesses.

If you like, I can even contact Weebl to get his express permission regarding the Magical Trevor mask.

Okey, I finally finished my Sonic Pack and want to share it with you.

The Pack includes:
- Hats of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy (in both her modern and classic outfit), Super Sonic, Shadow, Metal Sonic and Eggman
- a flag
- a spinning ring as a grave

I made a lot of changes to all of my previously released characters. Some were even compleatly redone. Metal is the only one, who only received smaller fixes.

Fell free to tell me your opinion.

That's because metal was already quite bitchin'.

In any event, I'd recommend also making a Dr. Robotnik. I know he's technically the same person as eggman, but, they have entirely different feels to me. You know, like a genesis one? I was actually considering doing it last night, as I have one team that is a Dr. Robotnik with a Mario hat, and seven metal sonics. XD

I mean, if you don't do it, I can, but, it's definitely something I'd be interested in.

Anyhow, very nice set. Sonic looks a LOT better than before. He looked kind of like he had a mental disorder or something, he's definitely much better. Great work, man.

The only suggestion I'd make besides the eggman/robotnik thing is that Tails looks a little bug-eyed. I mean, I know it's tails, but, still. He looks like he is getting a bee sting as the picture was taken. XD

Haha, no way, that is awesome. I don't know if it's something so small as the outfit or what, but I like him this way -much- better.

Those hats mostly look very pixely. They don't seem to quite match the style of hedgewars, but, that is just my opinion. If you have any good image editing software, I'd suggest trying to soften the hats a bit, especially their outlines.

OK, I'll soften the edges so it matches the stile some more.

Ah, okay. I thought they were from some obscure game or something.

Acronyms traditionally don't include prepositions (in this case, "of") or articles (in this case, "the"), so, it would just be PAH. In much the same way, The United States of America is USA, instead of TUSOA. I'm not sure if you care, but, I figured I'd at least explain it, in case you did.
